SWMM + ANUGA coupled 1D/2D

EPA SWMM 5.2.4 pipes coupled to an ANUGA 4.0.1 surface by the suite's own explicit coupler (1 s weir/orifice exchange at the manholes): a worked example of a 1D/2D model, not a product.

A worked example that ships with the suite. Ran 3 tests; worked examples and previous releases are shown beside the leaderboard, not ranked on it. Score cards from: SWMM–ANUGA coupled (SWMM 5.2.4 + ANUGA 4.0.1).

Manhole overflowing onto a street
A12-010
#1 0.14 % off
of 4 models
• Manhole outflow < 0.0001 % off; • Street depth 0.11 mm off; · Water balance 0.56 % off

The street carries exactly what the manhole releases (0.5 m³/s, depth 0.1 mm from exact), but 5 m³ of the 885 m³ is missing at the end (0.56 %). The coupler moves water exactly; the loss is SWMM's own continuity error (0.50 % in its report), made as the dead-end pipe filled and surcharged.

Flooded yard draining into a pipe
A12-011
#1 5.8 % off
of 4 models
• Final level 2.9 mm off; • Water discharged 1.2 % off; · Water balance 0.0049 % off

While the pipe runs full, SWMM's reported pipe and manhole volumes exceed its own balance by up to 3.1 m³ (1.2 %), which disappears as the pipe empties: its end-of-run continuity error is 0.000 %.

Overflow and return
A12-012
#1 0.028 % off
of 4 models
• Water discharged 0.028 % off; • Left on the surface < 0.0001 m3 off; · Water balance 0.029 % off

180.05 m³ out of 180 m³ in. As in A12-011, SWMM's reported storage is off by up to 2.4 m³ while surcharged, and back to balance once the pipes drain.
