HydroNet finite volume

HydroNet (Penn State) — its differentiable Roe finite-volume solver (Heun RK2, CFL 0.3), the engine inside its FVM-PINN.

Research code, run with the settings of its own examples. Ran 2 tests; fewer than 5 with other models, so not ranked on the leaderboard. Score cards from: HydroNet finite volume (Roe, RK2) (0d98ff5).

Dam break onto dry ground
A1F-010
#19 63 % off
of 20 models
• Flood front 237 m behind exact; · Water conserved < 0.0001 % error

The dam never breaks: no water crosses onto the dry bed. HydroNet's Roe residual uses a fixed 1 cm dry threshold and, at a face between a wet and a dry cell, the wet cell's own flux, so still water next to dry ground feels no net force. The same happens below a 1 cm downstream layer. Mass is conserved because nothing moves.

Dam break into shallow water
A1F-011
#9 0.26 % off
of 20 models
• Average depth error 1.4 mm off; · Water conserved 0.016 % error

Into 10 cm of water the dam break runs normally: depth error 1.4 mm and mass 0.016 %, but the error falls at a rate of 0.70 (90 % range 0.68 to 0.72; minimum 0.8).
