HEC-RAS 7.0 pipe networks · 1D/2D
HEC-RAS 7.0.1 with its own storm-drain pipe networks: nodes, conduits and top inlets joined to a 2D SWE-ELM surface, HEC-RAS's defaults; the network is written into the geometry file headless and HEC-RAS's compute builds its cells. HEC-RAS 7.0.1 leaves the pipe solver's settings out of what it hands its engine for these headless plans, so the suite adds HEC-RAS's defaults and runs the engine again (the run time includes both passes).
Production software, installed from its official source and run by the suite with its defaults, except the settings each card names. Ran 3 tests; fewer than 5 with other models, so not ranked on the leaderboard. Score cards from: HEC-RAS 7.0.1 pipe networks 1D/2D.
| Test | Difference, rank | Checks |
|---|---|---|
| Manhole overflowing onto a street A12-010 | #3 7.6 % off of 4 models | • Manhole outflow 0 % off; • Street depth 5.9 mm off; · Water balance 0.48 % off The manhole passes exactly 0.5 m³/s onto the street, but the street runs 83.6 mm deep where normal depth is 77.7 mm. The suite's balance (2D cells, the pipe cells' volume tables, the outflow line) is 4.3 m³ short of 900 m³ (0.48 %); HEC-RAS's own report closes to 0.017 %. |
| Flooded yard draining into a pipe A12-011 | #2 16 % off of 4 models | • Final level 8.1 mm off; • Water discharged 1.6 % off; · Water balance 1.4 % off The yard drains to 58 mm, 8 mm above the 5 cm gully crest, and 221.3 of the 225 m³ leaves by the outfall (1.6 % short). The balance gains 3.7 m³ (1.4 %); HEC-RAS's own report shows 0.88 %. |
| Overflow and return A12-012 | #4 1.3 % off of 4 models | • Water discharged 1.3 % off; • Left on the surface 0.708 m3 off; · Water balance 1.4 % off The surge goes onto the slope and drains back: 182.3 m³ leaves by the outfall for 180 m³ in, 0.7 m³ stays on the surface. The balance gains 2.5 m³ (1.4 %); HEC-RAS's own report shows 1.9 %. The pipe network runs on its own Courant-controlled step: on the 2D step alone (up to 8.6 s) its solution went unstable after 15 minutes. |
